Bringing it all to the table

One day you finally knew
what you had to do, and began,
though the voices around you
kept shouting
their bad advice –
though the whole house
began to tremble
and you felt the old tug
at your ankles.
“Mend my life!”
each voice cried.
But you didn’t stop.
You knew what you had to do,
though the wind pried
with its stiff fingers
at the very foundations,
though their melancholy
was terrible.
It was already late
enough, and a wild night,
and the road full of fallen
branches and stones.
But little by little,
as you left their voices behind,
the stars began to burn
through the sheets of clouds,
and there was a new voice
which you slowly
recognized as your own,
that kept you company
as you strode deeper and deeper
into the world,
determined to do
the only thing you could do –
determined to save
the only life you could save.

This fall I am offering a 10 week intensive psychotherapy group program for those individuals seeking a comprehensive approach to treatment and understanding of their eating disorder symptoms and patterns. In the final week of The Hunger On My Bones 10 week intensive psychodynamic psychotherapy group, we attempt to bring to the table pieces of what we have learned and come to understand our individual growth. We will also feast on what we have gleaned from being together as a group which is significantly unique from individual therapy. Our group has been a family of sorts and our work together may have brought up memories and experiences of our own personal families. Having had the opportunities to talk about these transferential feelings throughout the 10 weeks, in this group we culminate the time together with resolution and insight. Transitions can also cultivate particular anxieties, resistances and projections and these final moments together will cater to the opportunities we may have to work through these experiences for the greater good of each group member. Even as we end we think about how to move forward. If you or a loved on would benefit from this specialized group, please contact me about how to join my next group.
